Quiltmakers
of Gee's Bend
zine
Captures the history and reputation of the quiltmakers of Gee's Bend - an isolated location inside a wide curl of Alabama River. I take particular focus to Gee's Bend's fight for voting rights in 1965-66, and the role of the quiltmakers, who used the tradition passed down through generations to form the Freedom Quilting Bee, gaining financial independence.
The aesthetic of the zine is derived from the style of quiltmaking in Gee's Bend - handmade, tactile and imperfect.
